CONTEXT
Designathon is an annual 24hr design challenge conducted globally by Value labs; the 2021 version's brief revolved around the mental and physical health of working people during the Pandemic and WFH, we narrowed down on "Happiness"
What is Happiness?
The pursuit of happiness makes you unhappy. Joy of life lies in the spontaneous moments of life, in the little things. There is no formula to finding happiness but sometimes all you have to do is PAUSE - take a break and may be meet a friend or two for coffee, connect and converse.
Will to Stay Happy
Happiness is subjective. Everyone finds their own happiness but we can find little windows in life which eventually leads you to be more happy.
We found that for many, happiness come from
taking a break
having no expectations
connecting
little things in life
Our philosophy is that interacting with certain touchpoints in your life have the potential make you happier. We want to try and nudge one particular touchpoint i.e, taking a break. This single nudge can create ripples that touch other points and finally leading to pleasant uncertainities in life.

What the pandemic did to us
People lost the work life balance. Individuals were seggregated away from their loved ones, jailed and locked in front of screens. Loneliness created anxiety and depression.
We forgot to BREATHE.
There was no one to tell us it was okay to Take a Break.
Finding Joy in spontaneity
To identify and enhance the positive moments in life, nudging people to take a break, to pause from the daily chaos and to connect and converse with their comfort group in spontaneous and tiny moments of a day.
The final idea is based on the concept of how in an office scenario, your friends taking a coffee break nudges you to take a break.
The talks, discussions, sharing concerns and what not that happens during this short break is a tiny moment of happiness in a long days work.
Design Philosophy
The idea is not to create another long set of interactions with strenuous screen time, but to create a small nudge to get the users off the app instead of push notifications that drive them as digital addicts. The vision is to create a habit in the user that eliminates the need for the app itself.
Technology should fade into the background and feel like nothing

The algorithm first prompts the user to enter the time they want to work for before going AFK.
Changing status widget. An ongoing screen overlay being a constant reminder of the hours spent working. The more time spent on the machine, the fuller the container gets.
Just when the time is right and one has worked enough hours and a friend is taking a break a metaphorical widget goes off to nudge the user to take a break. The choice is again with the user to either accept or reject the notification.
